Summary:
Several of the papers in this volume discuss Samuel Huntington’s “Clash of Civilizations” theory, which first appeared in an article in Foreign Affairs in 1993. His thesis is, briefly, that the world is moving into a phase where conflicts will primarily be between cultures, civilizations and religions. Moreover, he has stated that the optimistic idea that international conflict will disappear in the future because of globalization is unrealistic.
